For you non-feed readers, you may notice my site looks a little different.  Yes, it has been redesigned and yes, it’s about damned time! The only thing is, my subpages (“about” and comments and entry) pages are screwy; something somewhere is screwed up and it’s going to take a little bit of time to figure it out. (The widgets get all funky on subpages, even though my main page looks fine.)  Mostly because dudes, did you know we’re still in the process of buying a house?

I hate web design.  I hail from the days of Geocities and HTML and drag-and-drop templates, back before anyone and everyone had a domain name.  I fell out of blogging just long enough for CSS to slip right in and, for the most part, I just don’t get it.  I know enough to tweak a template although a lot of that comes from trial and error, which is incredibly time consuming.  But viewing my site and pinpointing an error? Psh.  You may as well show me some ancient texts to translate.

But I don’t pay for web design either because I know I’d be devastated should I either decide to give up the site or want a new template.

My last design took the longest, mostly because I Frankensteined two templates together to create something more in line with what I needed.  That meant a lot of coding and, worse, a lot of problems.  That’s probably why I kept it for so long: stubborn refusal to make light of all the time I spent working on it.

Anyway, the site should be pretty stable now although I’m going to keep working on adding functionality in the way of fixing that stupid widget error on my subpages and possibly looking into additional widgets. (Widgets are your friend!) (Is “widget” still a politically correct term? Aren’t the widgets trying to get that word banned?)

If you notice anything that’s off or think you might be able to help iron out any kinks, definitely feel free to e-mail me!  I have no clue what I’m doing and I certainly don’t extensively test my site in various browsers — IE users may be seeing a completely different website — so I’m open to any input.

(Edit: Okay, so it has to do with my text link ads. So hurray, it’s not totally me! Just my settings on the textlinkads.com widget.  I’m hoping they’ll accept my site-wide status rather than “single page” status.  Not that this really means anything to a majority of you.)
